Who is behind im2graph?im2graph was created by Shai Vaingast, who holds the copyrights for the software. Shai is also the author of Beginning Python Visualization, 2nd edition (http://www.apress.com/9781484200537).
-
Why did you create im2graph?im2graph was developed to address a gap in the market for reliable and efficient digitizing software. It started as a personal project and has since evolved into a powerful tool for converting graph images into numerical data.
-
Did you write im2graph in Python?Python was used during the R&D phase of im2graph for prototyping, leveraging libraries like matplotlib and NumPy. The final application was rewritten in C++ to enhance performance, provide a user-friendly GUI, and ensure robust cross-platform compatibility.
-
What operating systems does im2graph run on? How do I install it?im2graph is currently available for Windows and Linux, with MacOS support planned for the future. For installation instructions, please refer to the download and setup guide available on our website.
-
What is the license to use im2graph?im2graph is offered under a paid license. Pricing plans are available on our website, designed to cater to both personal and professional use. The software is provided without any guarantees, including fitness for specific tasks. Use it at your own discretion.

How do I use im2graph?Check out the video tutorials available on our website or YouTube for a comprehensive guide to using im2graph.
-
How can I re-enable the Tip-of-the-Day dialog? From the menu, select Tip of the Day. When the dialog box appears, check the box labeled Show tips at Startup.
-
How do I zoom in and out?Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in or out. Alternatively, use the Zoom dropdown menu in the toolbar.
-
My graph is blended with the grid. What should I do?Enable the Degrid Vertical and/or Degrid Horizontal checkboxes to remove the gridlines.
-
I’ve used degrid, but it hasn’t worked. What else can I try?If the grid is too wide, try increasing the grid width setting for better results.
-
How do I break the graph into segments to exclude unwanted elements?Use the selection frame (a dashed magenta frame) to define a region of interest. This lets you isolate specific sections of the graph. Check out the video tutorials for more guidance.
-
What about logarithmic scales on the X or Y axes?Logarithmic scales for the X-axis, Y-axis, or both are supported. Enable them through Edit | Options. Select Logarithmic Scale (X) for the X-axis, Logarithmic Scale (Y) for the Y-axis, or both for a log-log graph.
-
What do I do with graphs that have no scales?im2graph allows you to extract pixel location data even without scales.
-
How do I select several patches without clicking each one?Click and drag the left mouse button to create a selection box. Be careful not to click on a patch directly, as this will select it instead.
-
Can I save the data to a file without pasting it into a spreadsheet?Yes! Use File | Export to save the data as a CSV file. Most spreadsheet programs support CSV formats.
-
What image formats are supported?im2graph supports a wide range of formats, including JPEG, PNG, Bitmap, TIFF, and PCX. For unsupported formats, use an image editing tool to convert the image to one of the supported types.
-
Can I paste an image into im2graph?Yes! Press Ctrl+V or select Edit | Paste from the menu.
-
Do you support multiple lines? Not yet. This feature may be included in a future version.
-
What is the Preview button for?The Preview button works with the threshold spin control, helping you ensure the graph is properly detected before processing.
-
The colorful patches of im2graph are confusing because they blend with the original image colors. What can I do?Switch to a grayscale view of the processed image via the Edit | Options menu.
-
Why not always use degrid?Degridding is a user-assisted feature that helps remove gridlines. However, it may split the graph into patches, and on heavily gridded graphs (e.g., millimetric graphing paper), the grids might completely obscure the graph.
-
What is the status text window (below) used for?The status text window provides feedback to confirm that im2graph is working correctly and processing your tasks.
-
How do I deselect a patch?Right-click on the selected patch. To deselect multiple patches at once, right-click and drag to create a deselection box (a thin blue rectangle).
